Favorite Shartin N made a move after the quarter and went on to score her 13th win of the season in the $197,400 Lady Liberty for free-for-all pacing mares Saturday, August 4 at the Meadowlands. Driven by Tim Tetrick, the five-year-old mare covered the 1 1/8 miles distance in 2:04.1. Pure Country, winner of the 2017 edition, paced second and Blue Moon Stride was third.
Shartin N took her time in the early going as Caviart Ally and Call Me Queen Be exchanged the lead through a :26.4 first panel. Once Tetrick moved the mare, the duo brushed to the lead, reaching the top before the half (:54.3). Twinkle led the outer flow, with Blue Moon Stride setting up second over as the field raced into the turn. In the lane, Shartin N maintained the lead, but Brian Sears had Pure Country in gear and closing near the wire. However, the Jim King trainee held off the three-time Dan Patch Award winner to take the win for owners Richard Poillucci and Jo Ann Looney-King.
With the win, the Tintin In America-Bagdarin mare has earned $688,740 this season, and her career earnings now total $764,857. Shartin N paid $3.20, $2.20 and $2.10 in the win. The victory was Tetrick’s third on the program.
