Onhishonor Hanover won the $20,000 Little Pat/Review Stakes for 2-year-old pacing colts on Monday afternoon at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, cruising to an open-lengths score in 1:54.
The three-horse field also included Ideal Joe, who broke stride in the first turn while on the lead, and Gregorian Flaw. Onhishonor Hanove, a colt by Cam's Card Shark, assumed the lead when Ideal Joe broke stride and proceeded to set the tempo with fractions of :27.2, :56.2 and 1:27 for driver Todd Warren. Perry Smith trains the colt for Sawgrass Farms.
The Review for 3-year-old trotting fillies featured four horses, and all of them were in the race deep in the stretch drive. Vitamin M, trained and driven by Indiana-based Trent Stohler, slipped through at the rail and won in 2:01.3. Riley Lynn set a pedestrian pace (1:03 to the half) but couldn't hold on the win, settling for second.
Vitamin M is a son of Muscles Yankee-Armbro Vitality bred by Perretti Farms. Stohler also co-owns the filly, who picked up her second win in three starts this season.
The Review for 2-year-old pacing fillies was just a two-horse race, with Kayay Digidigy, sired by Indiana stallion Panspacificflight, winning in 1:56.4 with Dave Magee aboard.
The Review for 3-year-old trotting colts was drawn with two horses, but a late judges scratch left just Premier Hanover, who won the $20,000 in a walkover in 2:06.1. The colt by SJ's Caviar has a mark of 1:55.3f taken at The Meadows this year.
