John Campbell parlayed a two-hole trip with Simply Class into a neck victory over the heavily-favored Petticoat Affair in the $46,744 Standardbred for 2-year-old filly trotters on Wednesday afternoon at the fairgrounds in Delaware, Ohio.

Campbell took control first with Simply Class from post one but let Brad Hanners and the 1-5 favorite Petticoat Affair take control. Petticoat Affair set fractions of :29.1, :59.3 and 1:29.2 before turning for home, with Corey Callahan and Dress For Success challenging on the outside. Campbell was able to angle the 8-1 Simply Class to the outside and around Dress For Success, and a late rally proved to be enough as the daughter of Chocolatier bested the favorite by a neck in 1:59, a national season's best for first-year filly trotters on a half-mile track. Dress For Success held for third.

Joe Putnam trains and co-owns Simply Class with Novi Trot LLC. The filly is a half-sister to Angie Blue Chip, a winner on the New York Sires Stakes circuit who finished third in the 2007 final for 3-year-old filly trotters. The win was Simply Class's second in four starts this year.
