Slots legislation passed the Pennsylvania Senate by a vote of 27-22 at 12:15 Thursday morning, June 26.

Legislators and other key parties had been negotiating the terms of the legislation early in the week and had a new bill printed by midweek. Some legislators had expressed reservations about voting for any bill that did not include a provision requiring newly licensed racetrack operators to pay a hefty license fee for the slot machines as well. All racetrack licensees will pay $50 million to put slots at their tracks, and new licensees will have additional restrictions.

As of early Thursday morning it was not yet known when the House would consider the slots legislation. The Pennsylvania legislature will finish its session on June 30.
