It was a night for maidens at the Meadowlands Wednesday night (May 12). In three conditioned paces for 3 year olds, each winner scored its first lifetime victory.

Donovan's Reef, overlooked after three undistinguished starts, got up for a half-length victory in the fourth race and paid $100.20 to his backers. The 3-year-old Artsplace colt, driven by Yannick Gingras and trained by owner Sam DePinto, covered the mile in 1:54.2. Donovan's Reef had two ninths and an eighth in his three previous lifetime starts.

Another maiden was broken in the evening's sixth race when Dream-A-While captured a conditions pace for 3-year-old fillies in 1:52.4. The Dream Away lass scored for the first time in eight lifetime efforts, all this year, with Ron Pierce in the bike. Brett Pelling trains for owner Raymond Martin.

In the third event for sophomores, Gingras and DePinto teamed up for another maiden-breaking performance. Delmonico Hanover took over at the half and led the rest of the way en route to a 1:52 victory. A daughter of Cambest, she had been to the post nine previous times without a victory for owner Dr. Madeline Zak.
