Soph trotters at Indy

Sophomore trotters were on display Thursday, Sept. 1 as Indiana Downs played host to two Indiana Sire Stakes finals. Favorites JL Bystem Pathway and Chiva's Rocket claimed victory in their respective divisions.



In the $82,825 final for 3-year-old fillies, JL Bystem Pathway was able to break through and win with a 1:58.1 effort. Trained by Dirk Simpson and driven by Jay Cross, the Bye Tsem filly left from post five and was on the move to the lead as leader Laura's Lady reached the quarter pole in :29.2. Once JL Bystem Pathway made the lead, she set fractions of :59.3 and 1:29.2 before trotting home in :28.2. Laura's Lady finished second and Mycenae Bluegrass was third.



JL Bystem Pathway is owned by the Horsemans Financial Agency. She has won eight of her 28 career starts, and now possesses earnings of $105,119.



Chiva's Rocket completed the season sweep of his division, winning the $85,900 final in 1:57.2. The Chivas Merit gelding, driven by Don Irvine Jr., left the gate third from post 10. By the half (:58.1) the Dan Perdue-trained entry grabbed the lead racing first-up and trotted home in :28.2 to win by a length. Hillcrest Victory finished second and Northern Catch was a distant third.



Owned by Dr. Douglas Bruinsma, Chiva's Rocket has won 19 of 23 career starts, never finishing off the board. His bankroll now stands at $233,560.
