Starsel goes wire-to-wire at Dover

Starsel was in command from the start in a 1:55.3 victory in the $27,000 Open/Handicap trot on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Dover Downs.

Daryl Bier got Starsel away quickly to take the front and play follow-the-leader the rest of the mile recording his third win of the year in the week’s feature trot. Glen DelRusso, Charles Dombeck and trainer-driver Bier own the seven-year-old Angus Hall-Super Sally gelding who now has earned $47,645 this year and $631,697 in his career. Lira Vita, driven by Corey Callahan, went a tough trip challenging the winner for much of the last half mile and finished second ending a three-race win streak. Nordic Venture closed well for Vince Copeland for third money. .

Yankee Fortysix and Ross Wolfenden came zooming from far back to overtake Charger (Ron Pierce) who had assumed the lead turning for home to score a 1:53.1 victory in the $10,000 Male pace. Bonnie Benson owns Yankee Fortysix, a consistent altered son of Artiscape-Kikipell winner of his fourth race and $114,630 in 2010. McCabe Hall (Brad Hanners) hustled down the lane to finish third.

Dreamluck scored a 1:54.1 triumph in a Delaware Male $20,000 Claiming Allowance pace. Vic Kirby drove the winner for owners Wade and Kathy Wyatt. In My Element (Ross Wolfenden) was runner-up with Marks Pacific (Tom Jackson),third. (Dover Downs)
