Steinlager is back in business on the track as the 2005 Elitlopp champion won his second straight race after a long layoff at the Solvalla track on Wednesday night, defeating a field that included Citation.
With Bjorn Goop driving, Steinlager took the early lead from post six and trotted through a slow opening panel before picking up the tempo. The rest of the field didn\'t have much of a chance after the slow opener and Steinlager won by open lengths in a mile rate of 1:57.2 over 1,640 meters.
Steinlager missed the entire 2007 season due to an injured left front suspensory. The only thing keeping him from another Elitlopp start could be soundness, since he\'s grown and now measures almost 17 hands tall.
Steinlager, who has a mark of 1:52.3, is a 10-year-old stallion by Good As Gold, out of the MacBreton mare Keystone Jazzy. He was rehabilitated and trained by the father-son team of Olle and Bjorn Goop after being taken from the track dead lame in 2006. He began standing at stud and his first foals were born this winter.
