Although Vernon Downs’ owner Jeff Gural has said he would likely close the track if a bill did not pass in the state legislature by a Thursday deadline that would allow racetracks to keep a higher percentage of slot revenues, legislators will be back in session on Friday to discuss pending bills.

The bill has been stalled in the Assembly’s Racing and Wagering Committee and hasn’t yet been sent to the full Assembly. The last day of session was Thursday but it has been extended to Friday in order to finish business. One Assemblywoman stated there was a possibility the Assembly could also reconvene next month.

\"I was virtually certain that this bill was going to be approved. I\'m completely in shock,\" Gural was quoted as saying yesterday.
