Pretty Katherine, Strike An Attitude and Idyllic won their respective $35,000 eliminations for the She's A Great Lady for 2-year-old filly pacers Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack. The top three finishers in each, plus one fourth-place finisher drawn by lot, advance to the $688,000 final on Sept. 4.
Pretty Katherine cruised under the wire 5 1/4 lengths ahead of runner-up Shyaway in 1:50.3, equaling the world record. Finishing third was Modern Connection, with Tea Pot Hanover fourth. Driven by Mark MacDonald, Pretty Katherine won for the fourth time in as many starts, lowering her previous career best sent five days ago in an Eternal Camnation division at Mohawk.
Casie Coleman trains Pretty Katherine, a daughter of Rocknroll Hanover, for owner John Liviakis.
Trainer Bob McIntosh, inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame on Aug. 19, sent out the winning Strike An Attitude, who was a half-length better than Southwind Jazmin in 1:52.3. Driven by Steve Condren, the daughter of Western Hanover rallied from far back to earn her third win of her career and a lifetime best.
Robert McIntosh Stables, CSX Stables and former professional hockey player Paul Ysebaert bred and share ownership of Strike An Attitude.
The Coleman Stable returned to the winner's circle in the third She's A Great Lady elim as Idyllic scored an impressive 1:51.4 victory over longshot Rockrates, who edged out Ms. Malicious with Swinging Beauty fourth.
As her stablemate, Idyllic is now a perfect four-for-four in her young career as she set a new career best in the elim. The daughter of American Ideal is owned by West Wins Stable, Michael La Cova and John Campagnuolo.
