Trainer John Brennan says Sugar Trader is at home in New Jersey, resting up for the Breeders Crown and the Matron stakes later this fall.

"He was eligible to a stake at Freehold, but we're going to skip that to get him ready for the Breeders Crown," said Brennan. "I think his campaign caught up with him in Canada."

In the Canadian Trotting Classic at Mohawk last month, Sugar Trader didn't show any trot and driver Luc Ouellette speculated that the colt may have tied up. Brennan said that didn't happen, but believes the Yonkers Trot winner definitely showed he needed a rest.

"If he had done well in Canada, I was thinking about supplementing him to the Kentucky Futurity," Brennan added. "Last year was the first year I ever went to Kentucky, and I had a ball. But the colt just wasn't as round, as fit, in Canada as he had been earlier in the year. So it was time for a break."
