Sullivan wins Open with trip

Sullivan Blue Chip used a second-over trip to win the $26,000 Open Handicap Trot at Dover Downs Wednesday night in 1:55.3.



Driven by Mark Gingrich, the 7-year-old gelded son of El Paso Kash tucked back into fifth as longshot Coerfurst (Brad Hanners) went to the lead through the quarter in :27.4 and the half in :57.2.



Saint Nicklaus (Hal Belote) challenged first-over with Sullivan Blue Chip right behind him. Sullivan Blue Chip chased him down in the stretch, winning by 1 ¾ lengths. Broke As Usual A (Tony Morgan) finished third.



Sullivan Blue Chip is owned by George and Marjorie Shubley and trained by Mark Lancaster.



In other Dover action, Orillia Bam Bam trotted away from a Junior Open field, winning the $21,000 race in 1:57.



Driver-trainer Brad Hanners steered the 8-year-old Balanced Image horse to a wire-to-wire win by 4 ¾ lengths for owner Fred Hertrich III. Team Sakra (Roger Plante Jr.) was second with Jersey Gal (Jim Morand) third.



Hanners finished the night with five wins on the card.
