Windylane Hanover and HP Paque won $50,000 divisions of the Su Mac Lad Series at the Meadowlands Sunday afternoon, with the toughest part of the battle the strong wind.

HP Paque drew off to a 1:56.1 victory. Driven and trained by Trond Smedshammer, HP Paque sat behind Golden Blend N as the latter commanded the front in a brisk :27.2 opening quarter. The pace then slowed, in large part due to the strong wind, and the halfway mark was reached in :59.4 after a :32.2 second quarter. With the wind at his back for the final quarter mile, HP Paque trotted home in :26.3.

Diamond Goal was second while Scully FBI took third. Fool's Goal, the 7-5 favorite, went offstride at the quarter and finished fifth, but was disqualified and placed eighth, then seventh, for interference while on a break.

It was the first start of the season for the jet-setting HP Paque, who raced in Italy in November and early December.

2003 Older Trotting Mare of the Year Windylane Hanover and driver Ron Pierce posted a three-quarter length win over Saint Johns Boy in 1:57.

Windylane Hanover is now a perfect two-for-two in 2004. The 5-year-old Lindy Lane mare has career earnings of $765,848.
