The 2011 Two-Year-Old Colt Pacer of the Year Sweet Lou posted an impressive 1:50.4 qualifying victory Friday morning at The Meadows. The effort followed up a 1:54.1 win in a Meadows qualifier April 20.

Driven by Dave Palone, Sweet Lou reached the half in :57 and then blistered a back half in :53.4, the last quarter in :26.4.

"I told Dave to go between 1:51 and 1:52,” trainer Ron Burke told harnessracing.com immediately afterward. "I thought he was going in :52 and a piece. Dave said he just does it so easy.”

Sweet Lou won 10 of 12 starts last year, including a world-record 1:49 win in the $650,000 Breeders Crown final at Woodbine Racetrack. The 3-year-old son of Yankee Cruiser is now scheduled to make his seasonal debut in the opening round of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes May 19 at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.

"He'll miss a week now and then go in the Sire Stakes,” said Burke. "I couldn't be happier with him.”
