The 5-year-old Cantab Hall mare Tamla Celeber, who won the European Championship in August, tuned up for her North American campaign by working out before the judges at The Red Mile Saturday night before the races. With Frode Fladen in the sulky, she started behind the gate and turned in a 1:55.1 effort, with her last half in :56 and her earplugs still in her ears.
Fladen allowed the mare to start her mile with a leisurely tempo, reaching the quarter in :30 and the half in :59.1. She picked up the pace and hit the three-quarter mile marker in 1:27.2 before sprinting home in :27.4.
Tamla Celeber, who is trained by Roger Walmann, is scheduled to compete in the Pride in Progress Trot at Indiana Downs Saturday, Sept. 22, and then in the Allerage at The Red Mile on Oct. 7, the same day as the Kentucky Futurity.--harnessracing.com
