Owner-trainer Thomas Gonsalves is pretty sure of his 2-year-old trotting filly Tammy G's chances heading into the $126,000 Historic-Acorn at the Meadowlands on Tuesday (June 24). "I think she can win it," he said on Monday afternoon (June 23).

Other than the outside post 10, Gonsalves sees the Jackie Ingrassia-driven Almond Joy (part of a three-horse entry) as his biggest threat. "I think Jackie will be coming late. Her horse has a good brush," he explained.

Tammy G, a Yankee Glide filly who won her only start so far--a new Jersey Sire Stakes in 2:00.2--is a tough filly to handle in the barn, according to her trainer, but perfectly mannered on the track. "To be a good filly, you have to be tough," he says.

She will need that spirit for her upcoming races: the Sire Stakes, the Merrie Annabelle, and then a break until fall stakes at The Red Mile.
