Teague sweep in Niatross

George Teague Jr.-trained horses swept both $67,450 divisions of the Niatross for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings Thursday night at the Meadowlands, as Western Ace captured the first split and Total Truth emerged victorious in the second.

Western Ace was driven by Ron Pierce to the 1:52.3 victory, holding off a late bid by Artstanding by 2 ¾ lengths. The win was a reversal of the finish of last week's $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final when Artstanding edged Western Ace by a nose for the victory.

A son of Western Ideal, Western Ace is now four-for-five this year for Teague, his sister Brenda, and Kovach Stables.

In the second division, Total Truth battled He's Personal to the wire, getting up for a nose victory in a stakes record 1:51.4 for Pierce. A son of Jenna's Beach Boy owned by trainer Teague and J. Patrick Callahan, the win was the second of the year in three starts for Total Truth.
