Terry Stone, former Ont. Racing director, dies

Former Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) Director of Racing Terry Stone passed away suddenly on Jan. 15.
 
After an exemplary career in the public service -– including 14 years with the OPP and 27 years with the ORC -- Terry retired in 2007. In his time with the ORC, Terry was an active participant and witness to change in the horse racing community – not only in the legislative mandate of the regulator but also in the very nature and challenges facing horse racing.
 
He is survived by his wife, Maureen; son Brent (Lori); daughter Andrea (Jason Bellar) and stepfather of Peter Seney and his wife Angela, and Christopher Seney and his wife Jennifer; 10 grandchildren;  and two sisters, Judy and her husband Terry Vestby and Kathy and her husband Larry Newton.

Visitation will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora, Ont. (905-727-5421) on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
