Odds-on choice Stonebridge Regal took himself out of contention early in Saturday's $250,000 American National at Balmoral Park when he couldn't stay on gait, leaving the door open for Gold Dust Beach to pull off a 14-1 upset with a 1:51.2 effort.

Tony Morgan was driving Stonebridge Regal and the 3-year-old colt pacer went offstride before the start and continued on his run throughout the mile. Meanwhile, Jason Dillander and Gold Dust Beach rallied late in the mile to take the lead nearing the wire and then hholding off the hard-charging 52-1 outside Cheyenne Bodie and driver Dean Magee by a neck. Odds On Duane and Tim Tetrick finished third.

The win was the third straight for the son of Jenna's Beach Boy and his fifth in 11 starts overall in 2005. Trained by Joe Seekman for owners Lee and Linda DeVisser, the win increased his 2005 earnings to more than $161,000.
