Don and Shirley Heck’s Team Lavec tallied his third consecutive victory at Pompano Park on Wednesday when leading every step of the way to capture the featured $7,200 seventh-race trot in 1:57.4.

Driven from post six by Wally Hennessey, Team Lavec was moved aggressively off the gate to claim the early lead in the mid-week feature, seizing control of the race on the opening turn before taking the filed through fractions of :28.4, :59.1, and 1:28.3.

Team Lavec entered the stretch with a 1 3/4–length advantage, and while Better By Design (Kevin Wallis) offered a late challenge when closing determinedly at the leader, the son of Enjoy Lavec crossed the wire a half-length the best to secure his third successive score.

Team Lavec returned $7.40, $6 and $2.80 for the victory. Better By Design brought in $12.80 and $5 for second, while Sonofapreacherman (Bruce Ranger) paid $2.10 for third.

Trained by Dan Hennessey, Team Lavec has prevailed in five of 27 starts during his current 5-year-old campaign, with seasonal earnings over $30,000. For his career, the gelding has visited the winner’s circle on 16 occasions, with a lifetime bankroll of $81,452. (Pompano Park)
