Tioga Downs finally opened its 750-machine video gaming parlor Tuesday, July 4, and an overflow crowd filled the site to capacity throughout the day. Nearly 400 people were reportedly in line when the racino opened at 10 a.m., an opening delayed three times the past week due to flooding in the area.

About 1,000 people were showing up daily at Tioga Downs since last week’s initial opening on Wednesday, June 28, was postponed. On Monday, the track distributed coupons for a free meal at the buffet restaurant to about 1,000 persons who arrived but were disappointed the racino had not yet opened.

Track owner Jeff Gural told harnessracing.com during the weekend Hall of Fame festivities in Goshen, N.Y., that he had hoped the racino would be able to open in a few days, citing wiring problems caused by the recent floods as the culprit for the delay.
