Making only his third career start, Captaintreacherous blew the field away in the $309,050 Woodrow Wilson final for freshman pacing colts, winning by open lengths in a track record 1:49.3 Saturday. Driven by Tim Tetrick, the Somebeachsomewhere colt pulled away in the turn and was unchallenged in the lane to collect his second win for trainer Tony Alagna. Hail The Taxi and Martini Hanover rounded out the trifecta.
Starting from post five, Captaintreacherous moved to the top after Muscle Beachboy and Brian Sears reached the quarter in :26.4. On the point, the favorite passed the opening half in :54.3 and scooted away from his pursuers at three-quarters (1:22.1).
"He did that really easy on his own,” Tetrick said of the winner. "He moved down the backside and coasted the rest of the way. A track record, that says a lot at the Meadowlands.”
Owned by Brittany Farms, Marvin Katz, Joe Sbrocco and breeder White Birch Farm, Captaintreacherous added $154,525 to his bankroll. The colt is from the first crop of the 2008 Horse of the Year.
