Triumphant Caviar trotted to a world-record 1:54.2 victory in the first of two $87,000 Old Oaken Bucket divisions for 3-year-old colts Thursday afternoon at Delaware, Ohio, but it wasn't without an anxious moment. As the leading Winning Mister and Dave Palone turned for home with Triumphant Caviar and Luc Ouellette on the outside, the front-runner suddenly veered right, forcing Ouellette to make a sharp left with his horse back toward the pylons.

"That horse in front just went right to the outside," said Ouellette in the winner's circle. "Lucky for us, it worked out."

Trained by Chris Beaver and owned by Kerry Beaver, James Gallagher, Paul Bernard and Ouellette, Triumphant Caviar won for the third time in 13 starts as the son of SJ's Caviar lowered the previous world mark for sophomore colts trotters on a half-mile track shared by Chip Chip Hooray and Mac's Crown K by one-fifth of a second. Triumphant Caviar boosted his career earnings to more than $310,000 with the win.
