Broad Bahn, a 3-year-old colt who is eligible to the Hambletonian, won an Open Trot for 3 year olds at the Meadowlands Friday night, racing virtually wire-to-wire in 1:54.3 over a firm sloppy track. George Brennan drove the colt to the win for trainer Noel Daley, with Pastor Stephen finishing second.
Broad Bahn, a son of Broadway Hall, started from post two and took a quick lead while Ron Pierce got Pastor Stephen away leisurely. Broad Bahn hit the quarter-mile mark in :28.3 and half in:58.1 while VC Chocoholic raced second with Luckycharm Hanover third and Pastor Stephen fourth.
In the last turn Broad Bahn continued to control the race, reaching the three-quarter mile mark in 1:26.4. Pierce had Pastor Stephen in gear, but the 1-5 betting favorite drifted out quite a bit in the stretch drive and never seriously threatening Broad Bahn.
Broad Bahn is owned by Fam Alber Horse Racing LLC. The colt now has two wins in five starts this year after a freshman campaign that featured a 9-4-2-1 slate. He won a Breeders Crown elimination in 1:55.1 at Pocono last fall, but was scratched lame from the final.
