Former track record holder Tweedle Dum and driver Walter Ross Jr. changed their race tactics and posted a 6 3/4-length romp in winning the $9,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Pompano Park Monday in 1:55.

It was the third straight win and fourth victory of the season for Tweedle Dum, a 6-year-old gelding by Star Challenge. Ultimate Sundance (Bruce Ranger) was second with B Cor Kenny (Dan Daley) third.

Diane Norris and Alfred Brotter of Pompano Beach own Tweedle Dum, who is trained by Gordon Norris.

A winner in his last two starts while racing on the front end, Ross changed tactics with Tweedle Dum Monday, electing to allow Ultimate Sundance to take the early lead to the opening quarter mile in :28.1. Three Little Words (Wally Hennessey), the lone mare in the field, was already moving on the outside and was able to clear to the lead before the half mile mark in :56.4.

It was then that Ross made his bid with Tweedle Dum and the son of Star Challenge shot to the lead as Ross pulled out the ear plus. Tweedle Dum then pulled away from the field and never looked back. (Pompano Park)
