Horseman Rod Bolon was injured Friday morning in a training mishap at The Meadows and flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, a recognized trauma unit in the area, which is standard procedure at The Meadows.
As of Friday night Bolon, 54, remained hospitalized at Allegheny General. He underwent a CT scan that was negative but was later given an MRI, with those results unknown Friday evening. He was experiencing neck pain and nausea.
Bolon was injured when he was coming off the track with a horse and was at the paddock draw gate when a horse still on the track spooked and slammed into him. Bolon went flying through the air while his horse ran clear of the scene. Bolon was wearing a helmet and had the chin strap snapped and his helmet remained intact but was damaged.
