Upset winners at Dover

An 8-1 surprise Mystra won for the second straight time in an $18,500 Mares pace while 19-1 Joanna Allen racked up her first win of 2011to take a $16,500 4&5-Year-Old Mares Winners-Over pace on a longshot-filled Tuesday, March 8 feature race at Dover Downs. Joanna Allen and Kellytuck Sophie won the sub-feature paces. Ron Pierce drove five wins.

Foulk Stable’s Mystra, with her regular pilot Ron Pierce, has always raced well at Dover Downs. In a $16,500 Mares pace and now has picked up her third win with two seconds in seven races. Trish Foulk conditions the Art Major-Pastrami Hanover six-year-old. She now has won $30,005 this year. He career total is career total $272,447.

Joanna Allen, winless in her first seven trips with a second and a third, responded  to trainer-driver George Dennis. The19-1 shot rallied in deep stretch to win a $16,500 dash for distaff pacers. A longshot in each of her last seven races, George Dennis got the Real Artist-Flora Allen four-year-old going in deep stretch to score a 1:54.2 victory. Dragon Woman (Brad Hanners) was a close second while My Juliana’s Girl Corey Callahan) finished third.

Then Jon Roberts and Kellytuck Sophie held off fast-closing Boca Hanover (Frank Milby) en route to a 1:53.4 success in another $16,000 pace for young mares.  pace. Graham Graces and M&W stables’ and trainer Bib Roberts own the nine-year-old by Cam’s Magic Trick –Kellytuck Ann. Dragon Woman (Brad Hanners) finished second in front of My Juliana’s Girl (Corey Calahan)..

Ron Pierce won four races including the last three on the card. Pierce now trails meet-leader Corey Callahan by two wins, 180-178. Ross Wolfenden and Allan Davis and trainer Trish Foulk had doubles. (Dover Downs)
