Valley View Downs back on track in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania State Harness Racing Commission on Tuesday morning voted to approve American Harness Tracks’ application to build Valley View Downs & Casino on 250 acres northwest of Pittsburgh. Only chairman Roy Wilt voted among the two members of the commission as Richard Welsh did not vote because of a conflict of interest.
American Harness Tracks had purchased the Valley project last October for $5.6 million from Centaur Inc. in a bankruptcy auction. The commission then had to approve the sale because it involves the last harness racing license available in the state.
The commission gave American Harness Tracks conditions to continue, including proving within 60 days it has at least $150 million in financing to build the project and that it gains the Pennsylvania Gaming Board’s approval for a slot machine license.
