Vernon Downs was granted permission Tuesday by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board to continue racing through July 31. The track has been allowed to race one month at a time because of horse shortages and financial problems.

Track owner Jeff Gural has stated repeatedly he is considering closing the track at the end of this month or in early July if a bill currently in the state legislature that will give the racetracks a higher percentage of slot revenues is not passed. The state Senate has passed the bill and it is currently in the Assembly.

The Board also reportedly noted that since minority owners Paul Marsiglio and Dana Gilman had been requested to submit background and financial information but had not done so despite repeated requests, they have been ordered to pull out by August.
