Vernon Downs’ owner Jeff Gural has told the Oneida Dispatch that the planned opening of the track over the Memorial Day weekend has been postponed due to a delay in obtaining a racing license.

Gural said the delay is due to the New York State Racing and Wagering Board’s concern over the repayment of money owed to creditors. An agreement reached regarding the racetrack’s bankruptcy resolution called for the money to be paid back within a year but the board reportedly has concerns about the delay. Gural said it would take about six weeks after a license is approved by the board to get the racetrack open.
