Warrawee June sets Celias Counsel record in final
« Return to News
Warrawee June trotted her way to a maiden-breaking win in style, scoring the $48,400(C) final of the Celias Counsel Trotting Series Monday night at Woodbine. Rick Zeron guided the daughter of Angus Hall to the 3 1/4-length tally for trainer Frank O\'Reilly, who also owns a piece of the filly with John Fielding, Jim Fielding and the Estate of John Ferguson, in a stakes record 1:54.4.
It took Warrawee June nine starts to get her first win, but she did look good on paper going into the race, with a head-bob loss to Only Lonely in her 2008 debut in the second leg of the series last week.
The Ontario-bred took command around the first turn (:27.2) in the final, cutting the half-mile and three-quarters splits in :57.2 and 1:25.4, respectively. She kept strong trot late to turn the tables on Only Lonely, and Daylon Mistress.
\"I was always thought she was a tremendous filly,\" O\'Reilly said. \"She was good from day one.\"
She paid $4.10 to win as the public choice. (WEG)
