The $1.78-million winning Western Ace came on strong for a 1:51.3 victory in the $31,000 Open pace on a damp and rainy Monday over a track labeled "sloppy" at Dover Downs.
Montrell Teague took Western Ace three wide around the final turn and then zoomed past the leaders, reaching the finish line in 1:51.3, with a couple of lengths to spare to win the week's top pacing event.
The win was the second of the year for the Western Ideal-Alice Alice gelding. It was his 27th career success, lifting his career earnings to $1,781,992 for owners Kovach Stables and Teague Inc.
Kentucky Rebel, in his second start of the year for Mike Cole, was a strong second. Blissfull Silence with Tim Tetrick finished third.
Real Image, piloted by Ron Pierce for his third of four wins, overtook Denim Hanover and Tetrick in deep stretch to post a 1:52.3 victory in the $29,000 Four-Year-Old Open Pace. David Rovine and Baron Racing Stable own the Real Desire-Shy Reflection gelding, now a winner of three of seven 2010 starts. Light Up The Sky came on for Teague for show honors. (Dover Downs)
