Winning Mister (pictured) jogged to a 3 1/2-length victory in 1:51.3 in a prep for the Arthur J. Cutler Memorial on Friday night at the Meadowlands and 3-year-old pacing fillies were also in action in two divisions of the John Simpson Memorial. The Simpson splits were won by Day Blue Chip (1:52.4) and Gottaseeaboutagirl (1:52.4), who both earned their victories on the wire.
Winning Mister drew post one for the Cutler prep and was in control at every call. With Tim Tetrick driving for owner Bob Key, Winning Mister only needed a :29.3 final quarter to win comfortably over Big Rigs. Winning Mister now has 10 wins in 12 starts this season, with his only off-the-board finish in the Glorys Comet at Woodbine, when he broke stride at the start and never recovered, finishing ninth.
In the first Simpson division, Day Blue Chip, a filly by Art Major, attacked first-over for Tetrick and won by a neck over Jamie Sue. Pirouette Hanover, the winner of last year's Sweetheart Pace, finished third in her season's debut.
Linda Toscano trains Day Blue Chip, who was making her first start of the season and just the second of her career. The filly is owned by Ken Jacobs.
In the second $26,680 Simpsom split, Gottaseeaboutagirl was stacked up eighth in the outer flow at the three-quarter mark, but with a clear path in front of her in the homestretch and a big closing kick, she put her nose on the wire first to defeat Blackjack Princess and Kiss Dont Bite. David Miller has been driving Gottaseeaboutagirl regularly and after starting from post seven they were shuffled back and had ?? lengths to make up on the leading ??? at the top of the lane.
Bob Rice trains Gottaseeabaoutagirl, a filly by Western Terror, for owners Michael Horn, Charles Bonham and Alexander Rice Sr. Earlier this year the filly won the Night Styles final at the Meadowlands.
