Winning Mister made his first local start an impressive one, scoring a 1:54.3 victory in the $26,000 Open Trot Wednesday at Dover Downs.
Matt Kakaley left fast with Winning Mister to get the lead and then never looked back in his second win in three 2011 starts. A Bob Key homebred 5-year-old son of Angus Hall-Winning Missbrenda, Winning Mister has now won four of his last five races and has earned $500,344 in his career. Cold Winner (Ron Pierce), last week’s event winner, finished second holding off a fast-finishing Photo Maxx, third.
Luvyabutleave got up in deep stretch in 1:57.2 for Tom Jackson in an $18,000 winners-over trot. It was the SJ’s Photo-Lady Ballerina mare’s second win in three starts for owners Arlene Cameron and Sarah Swart. Sea Raven (Pierce) was runner-up. Road Rash (Tim Tetrick) was the show horse.
Pierce and Private Marino were overlooked at 33-1 in the first of two $12,500 trots. The Hall of Fame driver rushed the Private Messenger-Miss Marino mare into the lead at the three quarters and then opened up for a 1:57 victory for owners Doris Marine and trainer Glenn Wilson. Spunky Vic (Kakaley) closed sharply to finish second. Super Chuck (Jim Morand) was third.
In the other $12,500 section, Kakaley drove his third winner on the card Foulk Stable’s Jabez to his second win in a row. Trish Foulk trains the 10-year-old Muscles Yankee-Elsa Angus gelding to his 25th career win. Master In Charge (Vic Kirby) was second with Valdez (Tony Morgan) third.
Kakaley had a driving triple, Tetrick and Jim Morand won two races as did trainer Les Givens. (Dover Downs)
