Meadowlands Pace-eligible Yankee Skyscaper used a final quarter of :26 flat to secure a three-quarter length decision in 1:52.2 over TJ\'s Ideal in the $62,800 Jersey Cup for 3-year-old colt pacers Saturday night at the Meadowlands. With just four horses entered the race went off shortly before 7 p.m. as a non-wagering contest.
Driven by George Brennan for trainer Chris Ryder and owner Yankee Skyscaper Partners, Yankee Skyscaper--a son of Artiscape--won for the third time in six starts this year. Last year\'s Metro winner now has career earnings of nearly $740,000.
Laughing Art held off Pandoras Sox to win a $37,500 open for 3 year olds on the card in 1:50.4. Driven by Brian Sears, Laughing Art moved first-over past the half and then gamely held on over the John Campbell-driven Pandoras Sox, who had rallied up the rail after having the early lead and then yielding the front. The top two finishers are both eligible for the Meadowlands Pace.
