Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New York (SOA of NY) president Joe Faraldo has announced that Yonkers Raceway, which had been scheduled to close on Sept. 12, will remain open. In a Facebook posting, Faraldo said an agreement has been reached with MGM Resorts to keep Yonkers open through Dec. 22.
“As a result of the SOA of NY covering purses for a number of weeks and the agreement reached with MGM Resorts Yonkers, there will not be any shutdown of racing,” wrote Faraldo. “Racing will continue next week on the same four-day schedule. Thereafter, racing will return to a five-day-per-week schedule through Dec. 22. Entries for Monday, Sept. 14 will be taken Wednesday, Sept. 9, as per the condition sheet. Purses will remain at current levels until we see some build up in our purse account. It has been a long and bumpy ride so far. Stay safe and the best of racing luck to one and all.”
