Youaremycandygirl sets mark in Shady Daisy

Youaremycandygirl established a new track and stakes record Saturday, August 4 at the Meadowlands with a thrilling victory in the $96,600 Shady Daisy for sophomore pacing fillies. Driven by Yannick Gingras for trainer Ron Burke, the American Ideal-Sweet Lady Jane filly held off favored Kissin In The Sand in a lightning-fast 1:48.2. Alexa’s Power and Tim Tetrick were a close third in the day’s second race.
Drawing post two in the field of eight, Gingras took command early with Youaremycandygirl as Kissin In The Sand and Scott Zeron dropped in the pocket seat from fourth. The filly set all the fractions after a quick :26.2 opening quarter, pacing to the half in :54 and three quarters in 1:21.2. In the stretch, Kissin In The Sand would make a valiant effort to reach the wire first, lunging late, but coming up short in a photo over the winner.
Owned by W.J. Donovan of Delray Beach, Florida and bred by Birnam Wood Farms, world champion Youaremycandygirl picked up her fourth win in eight seasonal starts. The millionaire added another $43,300 to her seasonal tally, which now stands at $208,093. The winning time eclipsed the Meadowlands track record for sophomore pacing fillies and the stakes record of 1:48.4. The previous mark was held by Blazin Britches, Agent Q and Dancinwitihthestars. Youaremycandygirl returned $5.40, $2.40 and $2.10.
