The Meadows has announced it has canceled its Thursday night live racing program due to track conditions caused by the recent major snowstorm that blanketed the Midwest and East Coast. Qualifiers scheduled for Friday morning have also been canceled.

Tax break proposed in KY

According to reports, legislation that would give racetracks a tax break on special racing days, effective July 1, has been introduced in the Kentucky legislature. The bill would give tracks a tax break similar to the one Churchill Downs receives when it hosts the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The Meadowlands and Freehold have now joined Yonkers Raceway and Monticello Raceway in closing for live racing and simulcasting Wednesday due to the major winter storm that has blanketed the Midwest and East Coast. Legislation that would permit slot machines at both Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs crossed the first hurdle Wednesday, February 14 as it passed out of the House Public Policy committee by a 9-3 vote. The Meadows has cancelled live racing Tuesday due to heavy snow in Western Pennsylvania. Although live racing is cancelled, The Meadows and its Off-Track Betting locations will remain open for simulcasting. Live racing at the Meadows will resume on Thursday with a 6 p.m. post time.

With heavy snow in the forecast for the area, the Meadowlands will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. Simulcasting will cease at 6 p.m. A determination about Wednesday\'s simulcast and live racing schedules will be made tomorrow morning. Also, beginning this week, the draw for the Meadowlands\' Sunday card will now be conducted on Wednesdays. The entry box closes at 4 p.m.
